Condo owners "sick of en bloc" go all out to
block second try at collective deal
Clementi Park owners are going all out to stave off a second attempt
to "en bloc the condo".
They have formed a group called Save Clementi Park to block a fresh
attempt to seal a collective sale of the estate of some 490 units
wrapped around green lungs and parkland.
"We are going to stop the en bloc. It is well worth conserving.
There is nothing like it anywhere else in Singapore," said a member,
Cole Yee.
In an email to STOMP today (Dec 21), Cole said: "After one en bloc
attempt last year failed to get even 50% of the vote (48%), another
attempt is currently being made with the recent set up of a new
committee.
"The anti-en bloc group (us) are sick of en bloc and wishes to
preserve the condo."
Cole, 53, has lived in Clementi Park condo for 20 years.
"The green ambience and tranquillity of this Sunset Way condo with
ten blocks which wrap around a hill cannot be replicated anywhere
else," he said.
The group, formed in November, has launched a website
www.saveclementipark.com
to highlight the beauty of Clementi Park.
One is the unique natural hill in the middle of the condo. It
occupies roughly a third of the condo land.
"On one million sq ft of land sits 490 units with huge lung areas,
parkland and wonderful areas for kids to play.
"Many people with allergies or skin problems benefit from living in
the condo due to the freshness of its air.
"Off the end of Sunset Way, the condo has wonderful hilly terrain
and mature parkland with huge trees," Cole said.
He said the group now has about 30 members.
"Support is growing. We are meeting all the residents and getting
them on our side. It's not about the money," he said.
