Stayers - a new label actually coined by a bunch of friends across local condos to convey there's a new breed of owners who can see the virtue of their estates beyond material means, who are civil and civilised, who provide a rallying voice in the developing enbloc saga which threatens the existence of older (and blimey, not so old) estates.

The devastation that happens to a Stayer when his or her home is under en bloc siege is very real. It is sweeping the land. It cannot be ignored. As one judge put it, it there is a “human cost” to enblocs. Misery!

A top lawyer gleefully revealed many litigators in the Singapore scene are being consulted on en bloc lawsuits. We have 700 or so firms, and many have been in some way involved. Why? Because people are suing right and left. No wonder there is a TV drama about en blocs!

The tide is rising and Singapore condo owners are fighting across the island to preserve their precious homes. Many condos now have their own websites (as listed below). What before seemed like sporadic resistance to the en bloc frenzy, seem now rather overwhelming. WHY? Experience is the name we give to our mistakes!

• As the condo and apartment owners become more enlightened and realize that the property market is moving faster than their profits, they see that their profits are negated, the so-called sizzle becomes a fizzle.
   
• Some developers sign and cannot pay. Goodness! Everyone is stuck! Some developers sue and scare the SPs.
   
• Many SPs feel downright played out that it took more than two whole excruciating years to get their cheque - by which time the price tag on anything they could buy was higher than the zeros on the cheque. Losses have been high.
   
• Some SPs feel played out by the Sales Committee’s agreement to price or contract terms that were so heavily in favour of the buyer that the SPs felt they had been taken to the cleaners.
   
• Some Stayers felt sentimental about the loss of the familiar orderly homescape that the enblocers call a “slum”, to make selling the order of the day. Willing to fight it out in the courts, the Stayers make resoundingly clear, NOT AT ANY PRICE!
